Interview with Belgium Duathlete Lotte Claes
Hello Lotte!
In preview to Powerman Alsdorf in August 2021, we would like to introduce our athletes and get to know them:
Please, introduce yourself and highlight some important moments and successes as an athlete
Hi, I am Lotte Claes, 27years old. I'm a duathlete. My favorite distance is 10-60-10. I'm Belgium champion in 2019 at the middle distance. During the Belgium championship on the sprint distance, I got 3rd. In 2018, I was 3rd at the duathlon at Alpe d'Huez. On the powerman in Maffra, I finished 4th.
How did you become a duathlete?
First , I did atletics. My brother started with triathlon, so I would try this, too. I liked cycling but I was not a good swimmer. Due to that reason, I'm a duathlete. I like the variety off running and cycling. Bit my favorite and best part is cycling.
From your personal perspective, what is special about the run-bike-run format of Powerman World Series?
The organization and the atmosphere is lovely. The courses are always fun! The course directors are kindly and I just like the feeling of racing the Series.
How often did you compete at Powerman Alsdorf and what is you personal highlight of this particular race?
I participated once at the Powerman in Alsdorf. I really love the bike course. The atmosphere, spectators are very well, too.
Have you participated in any other Powerman World Series races? If so, what is your „don’t-miss-race“?
My first powerman was the sprint Powerman in Mallorca in 2019, where I finished 3rd. Following, I participated at the Powermans in Alsdorf and Maffra. In Maffra, the bike course was great fun but pretty hilly.
How does a typical training week looks like in your preparation for a Powerman race (?
I have a very good trainer (Jan Petralia). So, I'll follow his plan :)
Despite the current uncertainties of racing in 2021, do you have a competiton schedule in mind?
I hope that I can start at the EK and WK middle and standard distance. I'll particpate in some cycling races, too.
Last but not least: What are your best advices for athletes who want to participate in a Powerman race?
Have fun and enjoy!!
Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights with us! We wish you the best for your individual and athletic goals.
We are excited to see you racing in Alsdorf on August 15th, 2021.
