*** Interview with Brazilian Duathlon Champion Edson Arruda ***

Hello Edson!
in preview to Powerman Alsdorf in August 2021, we would like to introduce our athletes and get to know them:

Please, introduce yourself and highlight some important moments/successes as athlete (name, age, important victories, job, interests etc.)
Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Edson Arruda. I am a Brazilian duathlet and my main achievements were the titles of Brazilian champion in the years 2018 and 2019 in my age group and the biggest of all, the runner-up Powerman Alsdorf 2019, also in my age group.
In addition to the sport that gives me great satisfaction in doing so, I am also an accountant and work in my office.

How did you become a duathlete?
I have always been active in sports: When I was young, I loved to run. A little later, I started to enjoy cycling. So ask me: Why not put the two together? It was there that I met my friend Talles Medeiros, who already practiced the endurance and duathlon sport and inspired me to be part of this universe that I do not intend to leave.

From your personal perspective, what is special about the run-bike-run format of Powerman World Series?
The dynamics! The fact of relying only on yourself to achieve victory. This format allows us to be tactical and strategic. I just like it so much!

How often did you compete at Powerman Alsdorf and what is you personal highlight of this particular race? (course, spectators, atmosphere, competitors…)
I fought only once in the 2019 edition and fell in love with the format of the competition. In addition to race in a beautiful city and with a welcoming spectators crowds, I enjoyed doing running training in the beautiful parks of the city and cycling in the surroundings. That was fun and essential to prepare for the day of the race.

Have you participated in any other Powerman World Series races? If so, what is your „don’t-miss-race“?
No, unfortunately! When the Brazilian edition of the event took place in 2017, I was in Canada competing for the world championship. And in 2018 it was not possible. My first Powerman in Germany was tough.

How does a typical training week looks like in your preparation for a Powerman race (apr. 2 month proir to the race)?
I usually train both modalities every day, alternating the intensity modes according to the days of the week. In addition to specific training, I go to the gym to keep myself strong. On the evening prior to the race, I only work the specific with medium and low intensity.

Despite the current uncertainties of racing in 2021, do you have a competiton schedule in mind?
Yes I want to! I intend to race the stages of the Brazilian championship, in addition to state and regional events. These races are good preperations for international challenges. August: Powerman Alsdorf and September world championship, hopefully. I hope everything gets better as soon as we get back to normal.

Last but not least: What are your best advices for athletes who want to participate in a Powerman race?
The Powerman is a unique and spectacular race! With its structure it is possible to bring together all types of athletes. From beginners to professionals.

Run the race and you will not regret it!
Remembering that TOGETHER WE BOOST DUATHLON!

Thanks for sharing your experiences and insights with us! We wish you the best for your individual and athletic goals.

We are excited to see you racing in Alsdorf on August 15th, 2021.
See you in August 15th, 2021!!!
